At the London Olympic Games in 2012, New Zealand almost beat Australia on the medal tally with their wonderful 13 medals (6 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze). 2013 will be the fifth AYOF for a team from New Zealand. They have the third largest behind Australia and China, and are expected to be very competitive.

Kim Crow competed on the track at the AYOF before injury halted her promising athletics career. After not winning a medal in Beijing, Crow was the only athlete to compete in two rowing events in London where she won silver and bronze.
