Canoe/Kayak - Slalom
Canoe/kayak slalom is a test of strength, speed and power. The sport involves paddlers negotiating a white water course as swiftly as possible, turning through suspended gates over a 300m stretch of water.
Competitors' times are combined with the number of penalties attribute from gates hit and missed. This determines the score for the run.
Jessica Fox won slalom gold at the 2009 AYOF and again won gold at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Having used these events as a stepping stone to major international competition, 18-year-old Fox went on to take home the K1 silver medal at the 2012 London Games.
