Hockey
Hockey is a game played between two teams of 11 players. Players use a hockey stick to hit, push or flick a hard synthetic ball past the opposition and into the goal. A match lasts two 35 minutes halves and at an international level, the game is played at a furious pace.
The 2013 AYOF provides junior athletes a chance to compete against the world’s best youngsters as they look to push themselves to perform at an elite level. Almost half of Australia’s hockey teams that competed at the London 2012 Games were former AYOF athletes, including Hockeyroos captain Madonna Blyth and triple Olympian Mark Knowles.
